Success For Schools Program
A lot of people from parents, instructors and students are convinced of the notion that "college starts from kindergarten." It is because of this principle that our kids are more competitive in their earlier years putting them in a very stressful environment.
According to a blog which you can find
here, time for play and having a childhood is being sacrificed in the race for higher marks at school. By the time our kids reach high school, they are already at risk of having difficulty with their emotional and social development.
With Amanda Rodd's background in high school teaching and her passion for counselling and coaching, Your Real Solutions teaches
evidenced-based life coaching principles, goal setting, problem solving
strategies, resilience, resourcefulness and coping strategies to improve success for senior students in the Higher School
Certificate through its Success for Schools Program.
- In
the five years to 2009 the number of students who appealed for
psychological and psychiatric reasons increased from 311 to 401, an
increase of almost 30 per cent.
- Those
who lodged appeals last year applied to have their HSC exam mark replaced
with a more favourable school assessment mark in 1291 courses.
- The
NSW Board of Studies upheld applications for 1049.
- Marks
were changed in 843 courses.
A study conducted by Coaching Psychology Unit at the University of Sydney shows the effectiveness of life coaching for high school students. Dr Anthony Grant, director of the University of Sydney
Coaching Psychology Unit, found that life coaching improved resilience and hope
while decreasing levels of depression in high school students. It also taught
students how to avoid getting stuck in negative thinking.
Evidence-based life coaching
Positive psychology and evidence-based
coaching approaches that Your Real Solutions uses can improve the mental and emotional health of HSC students
and improve success in their school and personal life in the following ways:
- Through the application of simple and
effective activities and coaching conversations students will build a
mindset of success and resilience to face challenges as they arise.
- By providing individual support and coaching
on an ongoing basis students will have a support system and action plan
put in place to create an environment for success. They will work through
challenges and change limiting beliefs to ensure success on all levels.
- Opportunities to achieve significant increases
in cognitive hardiness, resilience and resourcefulness through teaching
coaching principles.
- Decreases in depression (normal) and increases
in hope (shown to predict goal attainment and well-being) through ongoing
coaching.
